Be Careful! These Are Florida’s Most Gator-infested Lakes
Given that Florida is home to an estimated one million alligators, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if you come across one in a nearby body of water.
But there are more alligators in certain lakes than others.
A-Z Animals published a list of Florida lakes with the highest concentration of alligator infestations earlier this year.
Lake Okeechobee ranked highest on the list, which is not surprising considering that it is the state’s largest lake, covering more than 700 square miles in surface area.
The rating indicates that it’s big enough that it needs to be divided into several zones by the researchers doing the alligator census.
Even if Lake Okeechobee is the best, there are still a lot of other places to be cautious. The following is the complete ranking:

Remind yourself that killing or harassing an alligator without a permit is illegal in the state of Florida. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission advises people to attempt to leave the creatures alone if at all possible.
